David Hall develops interactive and engaging workshops which cover Shakespeare for all ages – bringing them to life in unforgettable ways.
Interactive Shakespeare workshops
Workshops aim to inspire, demystify and amaze pupils about Shakespeare’s extraordinary range of work – and to help them unlock many of the treasures to be found within them – to provide a ‘toolbox’ of approaches that can be used by pupils and teachers alike to enrich their Shakespeare (and other verse) work for years to come.
As a professional actor, David’s approach is also very practical. In particular, learn to search for Shakespeare’s amazing clues and information about how to play scenes and characters in the very rhythms and sounds of the words he uses.

Primary
Workshops have included full days on:
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the whole of KS2, culminating in a performance given to and involving(!) KS1 pupils and invited parents
- Macbeth, bringing out the horrors, poetry and variety from the play
- “Choral-speaking”, staging in groups a wide variety of speeches (e.g. from Henry V, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth and more) culminating in “work-in-progress” performances, given by each group.
Secondary
David delivers both general and specific workshops at this level, vividly bringing to life the texts and themes, through a wide range of activities and leaving both teachers and pupils with a raft of techniques and approaches that they can apply to all their future studies.
David works on both specific plays and generally and even once delivered two full day Year 10 workshops, created and delivered with less than 24 hours’ notice after another provider let down an academy school.
Sixth Form & beyond
David particularly loves working with sixth-formers and beyond. This describes a recent sixth-form workshop:
“Recently I had the pleasure of creating and delivering a full day workshop for some Sixth-form students near Derby on Othello – my first workshop on that particular play. It was a huge success. I loved it, the students loved it and their teachers were thrilled.”
By the end of the workshop, students will:
- Have gained an understanding and appreciation of a range of Shakespeare’s works.
This workshop can be adapted for all ages.
