The Search for Life in the Universe

In 1960, for the first time ever, an astronomer named Frank Drake used a radio telescope to listen to two nearby stars. He heard nothing interesting, but the idea of searching for intelligent life beyond Earth was born.

After half a century of searching we have not yet detected any transmissions that require intelligent extra-terrestrial authors. Either communicating intelligent life is a lot more rare (or short-lived) than we expected, or we are not looking in the right places with the right tools.

This 360˚ film examines the special places that may harbour life. Along the way we encounter breathtaking views of stellar birth, the magnificent death throes of dying stars and mysterious and varied surfaces of nearby planets and moons.
